More than 500 energy experts from over 100 companies of 9 countries of the world participated in the 10th Anniversary St. Petersburg International Energy Forum that took place in St. Petersburg on March 24-26.

The Energy Forum was opened with a plenary session to the subject: Energy Efficiency Improvement as a Strategic Direction of the Energy Sector Development. The speakers at the session were: Sergey Donskoy, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russian Federation; Alexander Agapov, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Prorector, Doctor of Technical Science; Stanislav Subbotin, representative of Kurchatov Institute Russian Research Center; Mr. Benedict Henriksen, Director for Industrial Relations of  Statoil ASA, Aleksey Kontorovich, academician, Chairman of Research council of Russian Academy of Sciences for Geology, Oil and Gas Resources Development, Chairman of the Forum program committee. Aleksey Sergeev, St. Petersburg Vice-Governor spoke the words of welcome on behalf of St. Petersburg Governor to the event participants.

Representatives of diplomatic services of St. Petersburg and Moscow from such countries as the Great Britain, Hungary, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, the USA, Sweden and Germany also took part in the 10th Anniversary Forum.

The press-briefing Energy Efficiency Today: Myth or Reality took place on the first day of the Forum. Aleksey Kontorovich, academician; Sergey Donskoy, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russian Federation and Dilizhan Mirzoev, Deputy Director General of DOAO TsKBN OAO Gazprom took part in the meeting with the journalists. At the press-event they spoke on the issues concerning improvement of energy efficiency in Russia, state regulation of energy efficiency, reasonable usage of energy resources, development of energy saving technologies, usage of potential of the Russian science and industry.

For the first time the Meeting of the Council for coordination of energy sector development under the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation for North-Western Federal Region took place chaired by Sergey Zimin, Head of Social, Economic and Financial Monitoring Department. More than 50 representatives of the leading energy enterprises and research centers of the region participated in the Meeting of the Council.

The round table Energy Sector Development Strategy on the Base of Russian Arctic Shelf Resources organised with the support of Statoil ASA  became a bright event of the Forum first day. Mr. Benedict Henriksen, Director for communications with industry of Statoil ASA, representatives of Gazprom OAO, VNIIOceangeologia by I.S.Gramberg FSUE, VNIGRI FSUE , ExonMobil Upstream Research Company took part in the discussion.
 
The round table Nuclear and Radiation Safety – the Basis for Innovative Nuclear Power Engineering Developmentalso held on March 24, and organized with participation of Rosatom  provoked great interest of nuclear industry experts. Aleksey Agapov, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Prorector, Doctor of Technical Science, acted as the moderator. The meeting participants heard the speeches of the representatives of the Federal Agency for ecological, technological and nuclear supervision, research and technical center for nuclear and radiation safety, Energoizyskaniya SPbNIIII, Kurchatov Institute Research Center.

Thermonuclear Power and Development Objectives of Nuclear Power Engineering was the title of the round table organised with the support of Kurchatov Institute Research Center devoted to the ways of integration of different types of energy.

The second day of the Energy Forum was also rich and interesting. On March 25, thematic conferences and round tables on oil, gas and energy subjects took place within the framework of the Forum.

For the first time the conference Megapolis Power System: Using Modern Engineering Solutions. Power Saving and Efficient Technologies for Energy Sector Development took place within the framework of the Energy Forum. The conference was participated by Oleg Trishkin, Chairman of St. Petersburg Energy Committee; Georgiy Turlov, Director General of MRSK Severo-Zapad OAO and Elgiz Kachaev, Chairman of energy committee of Business Russia public organisation. Solution of problems rising while operating energy systems of big cities, economic issues of energy saving, balance in development of energy and city building were the main issues discussed at the conference.

The problems of resources for gas and petrochemistry, ways of development of domestic oil processing industry, marketing of oil products were discussed at the conference Oil Refinery Industry: Investment Projects and New Approaches to Increasing of Hydrocarbon Processing Depth. The representatives of the leading oil processing enterprises and research centers of Russia spoke at the conference.

The round table Shtokman Gas Condensate Field Developmenthas already become traditional for the Forum. The issues of development of the largest arctic gas field, ways of further development of research and production works, safety issues were discussed at the meeting.

The subject of offshore deposits development was supplemented by meetings of ship building experts at the round table Fleet Construction for Oil and Gas Offshore Fields Development organised with the support of Gazflot LLC. Specialists from Gazflot LLC, Sevmash PU, United Industrial Corporation as well as the leading construction bureaus of St. Petersburg and Moscow also reported within its frames.

The round table Gas Fields Development and Construction of Gas Pipeline System for Yamal Region raised issues of development of new fields of Yamal peninsula.The round table closed the Forum second day. Representatives of Gazprom, Novatek, Yamalgazinvest, VNIPIGazdobycha, Shell, ENI and other companies of the industry spoke of the prospects of fields in the Yamalo-Nentskiy Autonomous District.

Energy Forum was finished by the round table Revival of Oil and Gas Development Regions that took part on March 26. Sergey Donskoy, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology; Aleksey Kontorovich, academician and Oleg Prischepa, Director General of VNIGRI FSUE acted as co-chairmen of the event. Reports on technological opportunities of exploration of oil and gas fields in different geographic latitudes, strategies of oil and gas resources development in the Eastern Siberia and the Far East, energy strategy of Yugra and Western Siberia development were made at the meeting.   

According to the decision of the events’ delegates the final documents of the Forum will be sent to the RF President Administration, Federation Council and the State Duma of the RF.
However, rich congress program was not the only one reason for the experts and specialists to meet. During all Forum days thematic expositions showing the potential of innovative and technologic development of the home energy sector were open for the visitors: Neftegasexpo, Oil processing and Petrochemistry, MIRR, Trans-Tec-Expo, Energomash of Russia, AtomTECH – Nuclear Power industry.

Such companies as Gazprom, Energoatom Concern, Woltag, Lenenergo, Lukoil-North-West oil product,   Vietsovpetro JV, Severmash and other companies of energy and related industries took part in the event. The exposition was visited by over 2,000 specialists from more than 50 cities of Russia and 16 countries of the world.
